Caroline Springs Children’s Orthodontics

Orthodontic concerns tend to happen at a young age, due to improper jaw growth and atypical tooth alignment. Modern research suggests that problems like crooked teeth are frequently caused by oral habits, such as thumb sucking, tongue thrusting and mouth breathing. The Myobrace trainer was designed to combat orofacial development concerns before children get older and need extensive orthodontic therapy.

Myobrace is an oral appliance used by orthodontic providers in over 100 countries. It addresses one of the leading causes of crooked teeth: improper jaw development. As an early intervention therapy, Myobrace starts correcting jaw and tooth alignment while your child is still young.

Reasons to Consider Myobrace

As an advanced interceptive treatment, Myobrace allows us to address concerns like:

  • Oral habits
  • Jaw misalignment
  • Tooth positioning
  • Orofacial development
  • Speech concerns
  • Dietary habits

How Does Myobrace Work?

The Myobrace trainer looks like a small mouthguard that fits over your child’s bite. It’s a flexible appliance that trains the lips, tongue and mouth to relax, rather than apply irregular pressure against the teeth and bone. It also applies light pressure to help expand the upper jaw so that teeth have room to fall into proper alignment.

Your child wears their Myobrace for an hour a day and overnight while they sleep. This schedule prevents them from having to keep up with an appliance throughout the day or potentially lose it when they’re away from home.

Designed for Young Smiles

A majority of orofacial development concerns are recognisable by age 4-5. Myobrace treatment is designed for children between the ages of 5-9, when their mouths are rapidly growing and changing. In certain situations, it can be used during the teen years, but it’s less common. Your child will need to have all of their front adult teeth.

Myobrace or Braces?

Children’s orthodontics play a crucial role in tooth alignment and growth modification. Myobrace is designed as a preventative and holistic alternative to cumbersome braces. Although some children will still need brackets and wires to fine tune their bite, Myobrace’s proactive results help to limit the time your child has to wear braces.

Managing Bad Oral Habits

Since oral habits can change the alignment and growth patterns of your child’s smile, it’s essential to address them early. The Myobrace trainer can help manage the unwanted side-effects of mouth treating, poor swallowing patterns and improper lip positioning.

How to Get Started

If your child exhibits signs of jaw misalignment, we can fit them with a Myobrace trainer and start treatment straightaway. After a month, we’ll evaluate their progress. A few months later, jaw expansion should be noticeable (which creates more room for adult teeth to align themselves). We perform orthodontic screenings during each checkup and will alert you if we notice any signs of malocclusion in your child.
