What is a smile makeover?

As dental technology becomes more advanced and requires less recovery time, the more popular smile makeovers are becoming. Many dentists advertise smile makeovers, but there are many people who don’t understand what this includes and why it can make such a difference. Smile makeovers are generally a combination of cosmetic dental treatments performed in close succession for a dramatic result. There is no set list of included treatments or set cost.

Why would I need a smile makeover?

If something has happened recently to make you unhappy with your smile, or if you have been unhappy with it for an extended period of time, there may be a combination of treatments that can restore your teeth. Many patients want a whiter, straighter smile, some have unevenly shaped teeth, permanent discolouration, or even need to replace a tooth. A combination of treatments often provide the best results when having dental treatments for aesthetic reasons.

How is my perfect smile planned?

There are many aesthetic elements that must be cohesively blended to achieve the best outcome for you and your smile, including:

• Lip architecture

• Tooth proportion

• Tooth colour

• Tooth shape

• Arch-form

• Bite and gum contour

• Facial features

• Biting edge position

• 3-D tooth position

The treatments to improve your smile’s appearance may include:

Direct composite bonding (for repairing chips or gaps in teeth)
Crowns
Creneers
Veneers
Tooth whitening
Dental implants
Bonded bridges
Replacing fillings

We look after our clients by providing the best possible smile outcome in terms of long-term health, aesthetic, and function.

What steps are involved in a smile makeover?

The first step in a smile makeover is a smile assessment and evaluation. This first visit is where you can sit down and discuss your dental concerns, desires, problems, and goals with your dentist. Photos will be taken of your current smile so you will be able to see the improvement. You will be shown examples of previous clients who have had similar problems, so you get an idea of what can be achieved and what is involved.

The second step is a smile design, preview, and trial of your new smile. Once you have decided on what treatments you want, we will work closely with you to create your ideal smile based on your facial shape and colour, personal characteristics, and aspirations. We can then preview and trial your new smile before starting any treatments. We will not proceed with any treatments until you are completely happy with your smile design.

The third step is transforming your smile. Once you are happy with your smile design, you can begin treatments to get your ideal smile. These procedures are generally painless, however, you have the option of dentistry under sedation if you still feel worried or uncomfortable.

Maintaining your smile

To maintain your smile makeover you must follow a good dental hygiene routine. Some aspects of your smile makeover, such as teeth whitening, will need to be repeated.
